The Return of Jim Schwartz: What does it mean from a Future Player Acquisition Perspective? (4/14/21)

The Tennessee Titans have hired Jim Schwartz to a Senior Defensive Assistant role. He returns to Nashville after being here from 1999-2008.

With his arrival will come an opportunity to poach and raid the mass exodus that’s taking place in Philadelphia.

Here are some players who could be in consideration, not just because of Schwartz’ presence, but because of need. Let’s be honest though, having a well respected coach who has these connections doesn’t hurt.

2021 Free Agents: Nickelback Nickell Robey-Coleman, Tight End Richard Rodgers, Running Back Corey Clement, Wide Receiver Alshon Jeffrey, Tight End Joshua Perkins, and Defensive Tackle Treyvon Hester.

Trade Possibilities: Tight End Zach Ertz, EDGE Josh Sweat, Wide Receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Greg Ward, Travis Fulgham, or Quez Watkins.

2022 Free Agents like Defensive End Brandon Graham who has has Tennessee roots believe it not, could want to come to Nashville. I went to high school in West Tennessee with his cousins who are originally from Missouri but has found a home in the Volunteer State.

Another angle to keep in mind is Schwartz’ 4-3 influence. I’d venture to say there are more high quality 4-3 Ends than high quality 3-4 OLBs in the draft. Titans could look for multiple even front defensive ends because of this hiring. Players like Janarius Robinson, Cam Sample, Payton Turner, and Elerson Smith come to mind.
